Last weekend, the “Integration of Theology and Psychology” course for students of the “Christian Counseling” program took place at the Realis campus. The course, focused on integrating a biblical understanding of the human person with contemporary approaches in psychology, psychotherapy, and pastoral counseling, was led by Olena Droshchenko, a clinical psychologist and supervisor.
During the course, participants explored topics such as human nature, self-acceptance, inner healing, personal boundaries, trauma, attachment theory, and Christian psychology of relationships. Special attention was given to how faith, spiritual life, and psychological processes interact in the process of personal restoration and growth.
Students also became acquainted with the works of leading authors in the fields of Christian counseling and the integration of psychology and theology, including Leanne Payne, Gary Collins, Henry Cloud, Larry Crabb, Mark Yarhouse, and others.
Andrii Kalinin, pastor of the “Living Word” Church in Kropyvnytskyi, shared his impressions of the course:
“Serving people has always involved not only preaching, but also the ability to listen attentively, support others, and help them walk through pain, loss, conflict, and life crises. That is why I am studying in the ‘Christian Counseling’ program at Realis. For me, this is not just education, but an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of people and to combine biblical truth with practical tools for pastoral care and support.
What I receive through this program, I am already actively applying in my pastoral ministry—in counseling, supporting families and ministers, and helping people in crisis and emotional distress. What is especially valuable is that the program teaches us to see each person holistically—with respect, compassion, and at the same time with biblical hope.”
